Coaching
In my one-hour writing coaching sessions, we’ll hash out where you are in your project (if you have a project, and it’s okay if you don’t), reflect on your process and writing space, and address any challenges and blocks that you feel are preventing you from moving forward. Do you have writing questions and worries that have been on a loop in your head? Bring them to our session. All told: I’m here for you, as a listener, cheerleader, and a sounding board.
Feedback
Needing another set of eyes on your piece of writing? Book a Feedback Session with me and I’ll read up to 10 pages of double-spaced fiction or nonfiction and we’ll discuss it when we meet. My feedback isn’t to critique your style or word choices, but to offer high-level reflection that helps you understand what your intentions are, and what you might be trying to say. I believe in you as the artist, and my goal is to help light your way forward.

As a recovering perfectionist, I’m not the person who will insist that you wake up at 5 a.m. to write 1,000 words a day. (Unless this is an idea that excites you!) My writing coaching style is based around self-compassion, play, rest, and gentleness. I help writers create a lifelong practice that feels sustainable and nourishing, and not something you feel you “have” to do to prove your worthiness.
I’ve been trained in the Unicorn Authors Club sanctuary approach, which focuses on the space where we, as writers, write; our processes, our mental blocks, and support systems. Sanctuary coaching is where writers can discuss the challenges they face, both internal and external, when they engage with their art.
I run a queer-affirming, BIPOC-centered space.
Let’s work together so you can tell the story you were born to tell.

I’m a professional writer with more than 20 years experience, with bylines in The New York Times, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, and more. My cookbook Eat Mexico: Recipes from Mexico City’s Streets, Markets and Fondas was published by Kyle Books in 2015. My fiction work has been supported by the Macondo Writers Workshop, Community of Writers, Yale Writers Workshop, the Tin House Summer Workshop, and the Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts. I’m currently working on my debut novel about Mexican food and assimilation.
Some of my other identities include: Chicanx, Mexican American, queer, mother, Southern Californian, and Scorpio Sun/Virgo Moon/Sagitarrius Rising. I’m a sensitive, empathetic extrovert. I love meeting new people and making real, lasting connections.
I’m honored to work with writers of any genre, at any level.
